HISTORY

Snekka Scandinavian Progressive Folk Music Group

Snekka, formed in 2000, is one of the leading names in the field of modern Finnish folk music. In its style, Snekka delicately combines elements from Scandinavian and Finnish folk music to rock as well as other genres. In many ways the music of the band is closer to rock than it is to folk but one can also find jazzy, progressive and even classical elements - without ever forgetting the groove of folk music.

The music of Snekka is roots-based for all the members of the band share strong ties to the Finnish folk music tradition, particularly that of Kaustinen. These strong roots makes possible for the band to be unafraid of experimentation. Snekka is the former Finnish folk music champion and the band of the year at the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival in 2004. Prior to groups third album Akropolis (2010), Snekka has released two albums; Mot (2004) and [SIC] (2008).
